Before I became a writer I taught reading to adults who'd never learned to read. Most of the time, the adults and children who came to the learning center didn't have the money for basic supplies.

They received school kits that provided them with the supplies they needed. School kits are distributed all over the world by an organization called Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).

Here's how to make a school kit! Supplies: (NEW items only!)
• 4 spiral notebooks (70 to 80 sheets each, 8.5'' by 10.5'').
• 4 unsharpened #2 pencils 1 ruler (flexible plastic, indicating both 30cm and 12'').
• 1 box colored pencils (preferred) or crayons (12-20 colored pencils or 16-27 crayons).
• 1 large pencil eraser.
Place all items in a fabric double drawstring bag (11'' x 16'').

If you don't have (or can't make) a bag, you can send your items in a box to:

IMPORTANT: Please limit your generosity to the items listed above. When kits are distributed to large groups (especially children) we want everyone to receive the same thing! Click here to find out more about MCC.
