Very Cool Person of the Month:

I would like to nominate Sandra Day O'Connor as a Very Cool Person.

It is true that in the past I've wished that it had been a woman I agreed with more consistantly who had been the first to serve on the Supreme Court. (Obviously, it should have happened a lot sooner than it did.)

But when O'Connor agreed with the majority on finding the Texas same-sex sodomy law unconstitutional, she was admitting her mistake 17 years ago when she was part of the majority that found a similar law in Georgia to be constitutional.

That she could see her mistake and admit it--to the benefit of one of the most discriminated groups of people in our country--makes her a Very Cool Person in my eyes.
